24 OCTOBER 2024: Two of our staff turned into teachers for a day at the annual Moo Baa Munch event in Toowoomba this week.
Brad Taylor, manager, commodities & logistics at our Opal Creek feedlot, and Cannon Hill trainer Tony Kickert presented to more than 1000 primary and secondary students from 15 schools across the Darling Downs and Queensland’s south-west.
ACC participated in the interactive agricultural learning day hosted by AgForce School to Industry Partnership Program – SIPP. The annual event plays a vital role in exposing students to food and fibre primary production.
Brad used real examples to explain to youngsters the different types of feeds offered to cattle while Tony used full-scale beef models to explain to older students the various cuts while also discussing the range of career options in Australia’s world-leading red meat industry.
AgForce media manager Tanya Nagle said the event showcased the vital roles agriculture plays in young people’s lives. “It’s essential for our next generation to understand where their food and fibre come from and how these resources make it to their tables and wardrobes,” she said. “Agriculture is so much more than farming – it’s a technologically advanced and essential industry with a huge variety of career paths.
“Moo Baa Munch is a great way to introduce students to the many options available to them, whether they want to work hands-on with livestock or be involved in cutting-edge research and development.
“We want students to walk away with a real appreciation for agriculture and to see it as a vibrant, innovative industry that offers a job for everyone, no matter their interests or skills,” she said.
