23 OCTOBER 2024: Professionals from Malaysian government departments paid their first visit to an Australian meat processing plant this afternoon.

The visitors reported they were impressed by the size of our Cannon Hill site and its operational systems.

Senior workplace trainer Rick Jurd led the group which included representatives from Malaysia’s agriculture and fisheries, halal certification and health and nutrition departments.

The group is spending six months studying The University of Queensland’s Global Food Systems Leadership – Sustainable Halal Food Security Training Program.

The program, a collaborative initiative supported by the Malaysian Government and hosted by UQ, aims to enhance leadership skills in sustainable food systems among key government officials from Malaysia’s public sector.

“The visits to leading industry facilities provide participants with firsthand insights into innovative and sustainable practices in Australia,” said UQ’s Associate Professor of Agribusiness, Ammar Abdul Aziz.

“We are confident that this experience will help deepen their understanding and foster connections that support their roles in addressing critical food security challenges in Malaysia and beyond,” he said.
