28 MAY 2024: Cameron Ward, our Compliance Manager – Agribusiness was the ACC representative at a recent workshop addressing best-practice action plans for a potential foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak.
The workshop, Exercise High Steaks, was led by the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association (ALFA) and Biosecurity Queensland.
Cameron (seventh from the right) was among the 30 participants, including feedlot managers, feedlot operators and government biosecurity specialists.
The group learned about the roles of government and industry in a cost-shared emergency animal disease response and worked through scenarios for three different-sized feedlots.
Dr Mark Cozens, Head of Program for AUSVETPLAN said: “Both industry and government participants were highly engaged in the exercise. They worked through significant issues that might be faced by the beef cattle feedlot industry during an FMD outbreak.”
ALFA and Biosecurity Queensland will prepare a report combining the exercise findings and recommendations.
